A Blurb About Our Blog
Welcome to Mrs. Bostic's fourth grade blog! This is a great place to find resources for our classroom as well as to find out what is going on in our class! We will have a "Blogger of the Day" who is in charge of taking digital photos of the day's happenings. They will then post their photos to our blog to share our fourth grade world with the rest of the world! Please leave us a comment!

Engage me? To me this video reads that these kids have to be entertained all the time by our mass media that sells them iPods, TV, games, movies, etc. I think we loose a lot when we become so far removed from our basics - to read a real book, to play by having to interact in person without any electronic devices, to be outside and have a deep appreciation and understanding of the world which gives us life. There has to be a balance. The use of tools such as cameras, musical devices, and computers ARE wonderful tools to help create and communicate; however, they should never be the only means of education. Our world resources can not sustain the current planned obsolescence of technology that we currently consume, nor can meaningful relationships with one another (teacher to student, student to student, parent to child, etc) be meaningful solely through technology. So much humanity is lost in the translation. So much of the world does not even have electronics...
ReplyDeleteInteresting thoughts! I did not feel that this video sent the message that technology should be used all the time. If I had thought that I would never have posted this video as I am a huge proponent of using NOT using technology for technology's sake, but rather to enhance the teaching the classroom. I do not feel that technology should replace good teaching and exposure to real life experiences. It does how every allow us opportunities to experience things in new and different ways! Thank you for posting your thoughts (whoever you are)!
